honoree presented an International Legacy Brag Book
to the 100BWFS for placement in the National Histo-
ry Museum located in Union City, GA. Each brag book
presented the honoree’s life, legacy and their journey into
the funeral profession. Biographies, history, family pho-
tos, special events, postcards and mementos were includ-
ed. Beautiful flags from each of the countries represented
were put on display during the awards luncheon and in
the Exhibit Hall in the International History Pavilion.
Many of the 2013 award winners wore their countries’
native costumes. Honorees traveled from as far as South
Africa, Nigeria and the Philippines and as close as the Ba-
hamas, Bermuda, Jamaica and St. Croix.

During the luncheon, a special musical salute to the
2013 honorees and guests was given by funeral director,
and past president of the NFDMA,
Joseph B. Cutchins
of Franklinton, NC. He provided his own down-home
sultry sounds from his album “Joe B”.
The 100 Black Women of Funeral Service Awards start-
ed with the recipients of the President Doretha F. Hector
2013 Award of Excellence, awarded to four outstanding
honorees because of their commitment and dedication
to the funeral profession. These recipients included: IC-

turned 20 years old the organization presented
its first International Academy Awards of Funeral Service
in recognition of its commitment to diversity in the fu-
neral profession. The event was held on Monday, August
5, 2013 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in New Orleans,
