The honor serves to recognize the 138th An- nual Iowa Funeral Direc- tors Association Conven- tion and the compassion that Iowa funeral directors show to their communi- ties. The Iowa Funeral Di- rectors Association will feature the Governor’s proclamation during the Convention’s opening cer- emonies and at its Pres- idential Banquet in Al- toona on May 15. “Members of the Iowa Funeral Directors Asso- ciation work, not only to serve families in their greatest time of need, but also constantly strive to promote and support fu- neral service excellence throughout Iowa and the nation,” said IFDA Execu- tive Director Suzanne M. Gebel , CAE. “By the time a funeral director is work- ing with families, he or she has received years of educa- tion and training, includ- ing mortuary school and a lengthy apprenticeship. All Iowa funeral directors are licensed by the state and maintains his or her pro- fessional status with con- tinuing education in every- thing from technical skills to preneed ethics and the psychology of grief.” IFDA represents over 700 Iowa licensed funer- al directors and 425 fu- neral home establishments throughout the state. The mission of the Iowa Fu- neral Directors Associa- tion is to promote and support funeral service excellence. Additional- ly, IFDA promotes high standards within the field of funeral service through continuing education pro- grams, legislative repre- sentation, and service to Iowa communities.
