THOMAS “TOM” ALEX BROUSSARD of Beaumont, TX died March 18, 2019 at the age of 57. A fourth genera- tion funeral director, Tom was co-chief executive officer for the six locations of Broussard’s Mortuary. CATHERINE “CAROL” BROWN of Larimore, ND died October 11, 2018 at the age of 81. She worked alongside her husband, Doug Brown at the Brown Fu- neral Home for 49 years as a fu- neral assistant. MONROE JAMES EDWARDS of Memphis, TN died March 15, 2019 at the age of 92. He was the found- er and president of the M. J. Edwards Funeral Home, which he operated for nearly 40 years. WILLIAM“SPOKE” JEFFERSON of Foxworth, MS died March 15, 2019 at the age of 82. He worked for over 40 years in the funeral business at Smith Fu- neral Home, Columbia, MS together with the owner the late David E. Smith. Jeffer- son became head licensed fu- neral director at Smith Funeral Home in 2017. WILLIAM JOSEPH MCGEE SR of Cape May Court House, NJ died April 8, 2019 at the age of 76. A retired funeral director, he owned and oper- ated McGee Funeral Home in Burlington Township. THOMAS P.“TUCKER”O’CONNELL of Hudson, WI died March 2, 2019 at the age of 91. A licensed funeral director, he founded the O’Connell Valley Funeral Home in 1985, which he oper- ated alongside his sons Dan and Mike. He obtained his degree in mortuary science from the University of Minnesota. EDWIN RUFUS PUTMAN of Lebanon, OH died March 20, 2019 at the age of 90. A retired funeral director, he was employed with Ander- son Funeral Home for 50 years and was a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. JACK S. RICHARDSON of Westerville, formerly of Ak- ron, OH and Crawfordsville, IN died March 21, 2019 at the age of 92. A former owner of Baumgardner Vault Co., he was the former Clark Vault Co salesman and was a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. JAMES ALEXANDER SAPPENFIELD III of Bermuda Run, formerly of Troutman, NC died March 13, 2019 at the age of 66. He worked in the funeral business for 45 years and owned Troutman Funeral Home for 30 of those years. He graduated from the Gupton Jones College of Funeral Service. CARLA HAMRE THOFTNE of Lodi, WI died March 10, 2019 at the age of 62. She was the owner and operator of Hamre Funeral Home un- til her retirement in 2011. AUSTIN J. WILEY of New Lex- ington, OH died April 3, 2019 at the age of 90. A licensed fu- neral director and embalmer for 67 years, he began working for the Spiker Funeral Home in Canton at the age of thir- teen. He owned and operat- ed the Wiley Funeral Home in Glouster in the 1950-60’s, and in 1963, he purchased the Chute-Belford Funeral Home in New Lexington. Wiley also owned and operated the Hughes Funeral Home in Ath- ens and the Wiley Funeral Home in Coring. A 1950 graduate of the Cleveland College of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the Ohio Funeral Director Association and the National Funeral Director Association. JAMES LYNN HUFFMAN of Sullivan, IL died March 19, 2019 at the age of 70. A li- censed funeral director and embalmer, he worked at the Dawson and Wikoff Fu- neral Homes in Decatur for twenty years, the Mitten- dorf-Calvert Funeral Home in Champaign for three years and the Bower-Wann Fu- neral Home in Lewiston, ID for four years. He graduated Sum Cum Laude from the Worsham College of Mortuary Science. CHARLES “CHUCK” JOHNSON of Toledo, OH died March 29, 2019 at the age of 75. He was a licensed funeral direc- tor and embalmer for more than 40 years at Neville Fu- neral Home and served Lucas County Coroner’s office for an additional six years. A 1967 graduate of the Cincinna- ti College of Mortuary Science, he was the former president of the North West Ohio Funeral Directors Association and was a member of the Ohio Embalmer’s Association.
