The class will take place May 1–4, 2018 at Rollins College in Winter Park, FL. This new location is within convenient driving distance of Orlando, FL. The four-day course is designed to help funeral home owners, managers and candidates for succession adopt the most innovative business practices. Topics that will be covered include strategy and business processes, finan- cial and legal strategies, marketing for the future and suc- cession planning and funeral home valuation. Attendees will gain experience from case studies and interactive, ap- plication-oriented learning exercises. “We are very excited to be moving this course to Florida,” said Judy Ralston-Hansen, Homesteaders executive vice president of human resources and administration. “Our new class of graduates will benefit from this in-depth train- ing that includes several takeaways they can put into prac- tice immediately upon their return.” The faculty of Drake’s College of Business and Public Ad- ministration has worked with Homesteaders to discover the unique business opportunities and challenges of the funer- al profession. The course addresses those topics through in- depth training, practical exercise and one-on-one coaching. “This class gave us an overarching approach to strate- gy on a number of different things, from leadership to finance and marketing to acquisition,” said Trae Cody, owner, manager and funeral director of Companion Fu- neral & Cremation Service in Cleveland, TN. “It gives us a good idea on how to step back from day-to-day op- erations and how to create an action plan.” Homesteaders Life Company, a mutual company owned by its policy holders, is a national leader providing products and services to promote and support the funding of advance funeral planning and end-of-life expenses.
