MADE INUSA Elaine Mallon Releases a New Step-By-Step Grief Recovery Guidebook for those Mourning the Loss of their Mother By Nancy Weil Where will your Vision Take You in 2019? As the new year began, some people made resolutions for the year ahead. Others just use the turning over of one year to the next to reflect on what was and look ahead to what might be. Perhaps you even set your 2019 financial goals, your anticipated number of families served, your budget, your cremation vs. traditional per- centages, your list of property improvements and other assorted aims for the year, but how much time have you spent visualizing all of this as already being done? Visualization can be a very powerful tool to use. Ath- letes use it all of the time to “see” themselves running the perfect race, completing their gymnastics routine, making that hole in one and winning the game. There was a research study that had participants throw 20 free throws on a basketball court. They then divided the group into thirds. The first group was told to go home, do nothing with a basketball and return in 30 days. The second group was instructed to practice every day for 30 days shooting free throws. The final group was not to touch a basketball, but instead they were to spend time each day picturing themselves on the free throw line sinking basket after basket with the perfect shot. At the end of the month, they were gathered to- gether and once again made those same 20 attempts at Random Musings the basket. The first group showed no improvement. The second group who practiced showed a marked improve- ment. The surprising finding was that the third group who had never touched a basketball improved almost as much as the second group! Our mind is powerful. It can be used to motivate, trick, scare or empower us. It can become a tyrant and take over our lives or it can become our partner and help us create our lives as we wish it to be. Visualization is a great tool to use to put mind over matter. Set aside reality for a moment and instead picture in your mind what you would like to see in your life. It might be money in your bank account. If so, then see yourself look- ing at your Quickbooks ledger, putting in a large deposit at the bank or writing a check without worrying about the rest of your bills. Don’t just picture it, but fill in as many details as you can without getting too specific and block- ing out other possibilities (in other words picture money, without having to set the exact amount) What computer are you on and what room are you in when you are looking at your Quickbooks or bank ledger? What bank branch are you walking into with your large deposit? What are you buying with your new-found wealth? Now comes the most important step of all – feel it. Tap into how you feel seeing your bank balance. Happy? Energized? Empowered? Really feel the emotions that arise when you visualize your situation occurring. Throw your hands into the air and cheer your suc- cess, if not physically, then picture yourself doing this as well. There are no limits with this process. If you want it, you can have it…at least in your mind and in your heart. There is no judgement with this process. You get to decide what is important to you and no one needs to know about it. There are only possibilities with this process. Visualization allows you to focus on your goals, your dreams, your desires. Visualization is a fun and useful way to tap into creating your thoughts into your reality. As the year unfolds watch for the results. Consider the words of athlete Ralph Marston who said, “Dare to visualize a world in which your most treasured dreams have be- come true.” www.nomispublications.com Funeral Home & Cemetery News Contributors share insights and exchange ideas. LOS ANGELES,CA— Author Elaine Mallon has re- leased Healing After the Loss of Your Mother: A Grief & Comfort Manual , a practical, step-by-step guidebook for those mourning the loss of their mother and for supporters hoping to help a loved one through grief. It is a book of comfort, guidance, and hope. Mallon’s insight into grief comes from the heartbreak- ing experience of losing her mother suddenly and un- expectedly. Devastated and unprepared for how life- changing and painful processing the loss would be, Mallon found herself wondering: “Where’s the manu- al?” and “How do I do this?” “This is the book I desperately needed when my own mom died,” says Mallon. “It is an essential companion for anyone uncertain about what to do or where to turn after their mother’s death.” Like a compassionate friend, Mallon captures the raw, unique pain of losing your mother with empathy, honesty, and el- oquence. She guides the reader through each step of the grieving process, of- fering straightforward an- swers to many common questions and tenderly addressing fears faced by those in mourning, as well. This book also offers di- rection for those hoping to comfort someone who is grieving, by explaining what a person in grief is going through and how to be most helpful to them. This grief recovery manual provides helpful informa- tion on topics such as, Getting A Support System, Shift- ing Relationships, Identity Crisis, Coping Tools, When to Seek Help, Triggers, Surviving the Holidays, and The New Normal. To those feeling overwhelmed and lost, Mallon adds, “If you’re grieving, you’re healing—and you are not alone. We will walk this together.” Elaine Mallon is an award-winning public relations and marketing veteran who began her professional ca- reer in entertainment publicity where she was a publi- cist for MGM/UA Television and CBS Television, and later became Vice President, Media & Corporate Rela- tions at 20th Century Fox Television.
