Kazmierczak, CFSP, has worn many hats in her professional life and with MFDA, where she has been a board member, officer, advocate and instructor. After helping her late husband in the funeral profession on oc- casion, she started taking classes at New Eng- land Institute at Mount Ida in early 2004. “Based on the Massachusetts laws, I could (have operated) the business as a widow. I felt strongly then, as I do today, our community deserves better than that,” said Kazmierczak, who earned her license in 2007. “They deserved someone who wasn’t just running the business, but an educated credentialed funeral practitioner who could provide more than empathy, but also service, knowledge and skill.” Part of her motivation to serve with MFDA in a leadership role is to help ad- vance the profession and elevate funeral service in the eyes of the community. “Be- cause of the nature of what we do, and the fact most people do not want to speak about it, society is somewhat uninformed and many times misinformed,” Kazmierc- zak said. “In addition, like many profes- sional groups, we tend to get insular.
