Wappner to Serve as FIAT-IFTA President Bill Wappner (center) pictured with the 2024-26 Board BROOKFIELD,WI— NFDA past president Bill Wappner, who has been serving as the United States representative to the Fédération Internationale des Associations de Thanathologues (International Federation of Thanatologists Associations; FIAT-IFTA) since 2017, was installed as president during its 2024 convention, which took place September 18-20 in Krakow, Poland. Wappner is the fourth funeral director from the United States to serve as president of FIAT-IFTA. He follows Raoul Pinette (197678), Ronald Whiston (1978-80) and William Hocker (1992-94). Wappner’s continued leadership in FIAT-IFTA not only showcases the expertise of United States funeral service professionals on the global stage but also strengthens NFDA’s international ties within the profession, fostering the exchange of knowledge and best practices. Since the foundation of the FIAT-IFTA Federation in 1970 the delegates of the National Members elect and nominate the members of the FIAT-IFTA Board at the biennial General Assembly of the Membership. The term of the FIAT-IFTA Board is two years. The secretary and the treasurer may be reelected.
