Evan G. Thayer, owner and funeral director, was raised in a family-owned and operated funeral home in Indiana. He grew up watching his parents work vis- itations and funerals from the landing on the stairs be- tween the funeral home and the apartment his family lived in. It was from here that his interest grew in fu- neral service. Upon graduation from high school, Evan attended Mid-America College of Funeral Service where he obtained his degree. After obtaining his funeral director’s license, Evan found his home on Main Street and began serving the community of Rockport as a funeral director, at only 22 years of age. He married Layla, who is active with the local volunteer fire department, an EMT, and a deputy coroner. Together they have two young chil- dren, Kendall and Kramer. The Boultinghouse Funeral Home also serves the Chris- ney community through its Youngblood Chapel, while Koehler Funeral Home serves families in the Chandler area through the Perigo Chapel. All locations offer a warm, comfortable environment that is family-oriented with traditional architecture and tasteful decor. For 125 years, many generations of funer- al directors have served the community. Evan is proud to be a part of the tradition, proud to be succeeding the legacy of those caretakers that came before him. The business began when John A. Billups and his www.nomispublications.com Our newest columnist, Wally Hooker , takes a step away from the technical side of Embalming 101 to share the story of Ron... S ee P age A16 “Ron died peacefully at home surrounded by family, who were lovingly holding him as he took his last breath ... I dressed Ron in his finest, all the way down to his favorite pheasant tie tack. He looked great, but I’m always fearful when I think my bodies look great, that the family won’t. Once he was casketed in a Pecan casket with a John Deere tractor headpanel I was sure all would be well.” S elected I ndependent F uneral H omes H osts F irst -E ver Virtual A nnual M eeting S ee P age A34 Classified Ads Shipping Directory Index of Advertisers
