Most Rev. Gerald Kicanas is presently serving a three- year term, begun in 2016, as Episcopal Moderator for the Catholic Cemetery Conference. Bishop Kica- nas was appointed Aux- iliary Bishop of Chicago in 1995, and ordained a bishop a short time lat- er. Principal among his pastoral interests are vo- cations, the permanent diaconate and encourage- ment of lay ministry. He became Bishop of Tuc- son in 2003. Bishop Ki- canas is now the Bishop Emeritus of Tucson, hav- ing retired in 2017, and currently serves as Apos- tolic Administrator of the Diocese of Las Cruces in New Mexico. Thomas J. Jordan , CCCE was recently ap- pointed by the Board of Directors to serve the re- maining term of the Di- rector at-Large, Eastern United States and East- ern Canada. The posi- tion was recently vacat- ed and Jordan will be in place until 2020. He cur- rently is the Administra- tor of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Cem- etery of the Diocese of Palm Beach in Royal Palm Beach, FL and has held this position since 2009. Since becoming Administrator, Jordan has over- seen the successful implementation of nu- merous programs and projects realizing a 235% increase in interments and a 400% increase in gross revenues.  Serving a three year term as Director at- Large, Midwestern United States is Mi- chael P. Welsh , CCCE. In 2008, Welsh became COO of the Gary Diocesan Cemeteries managing two of their loca- tions. In 2010, he helped transition Sts. Peter & Paul Parish Cemetery into a Di- ocesan Cemetery. Welsh graduated from the Catholic Cemetery Conference School of Leader- ship and Management Excellence, held at John Carroll University, in 2006. Welsh also certified as a CCCE in 2009 and re- certified for the designation in 2014. He is also a member of MCCO , Alliance of Illi- nois Cemeterians and the Indiana Cemetery Association . Serving a three year term as Director at- Large, Eastern United States and Eastern Canada is Joseph M. Heckel , CCCE, re- placing Mary J. Frick, who was elected Treasurer. In 1993, Heckel left retail man- agement to pursue a more meaningful and spiritual calling with Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Newark. After pro- motions to Memorialization Coordinator and Assistant Sales Manager, Heckel be- came the Director of Sales in 2006, over- seeing all sales and sales administrative ac- tivities for the Archdiocese of Newark Catholic Cemeteries that owns and oper- ates eight Archdiocesan cemeteries. Heckel also is a graduate of the CCC School of Leadership and Management Excellence held at the University of Notre Dame and a graduate of ICCFA University. Continuing as Director at-Large, West- ern United States, Western Canada and Oceania, including Australia, is Moni- ca J. Williams , CCCE. Williams is the Director of Cemeteries for the Archdio- cese of San Francisco, overseeing eight cemeteries. She also serves on the Board of St. John’s Cemetery in San Mateo. Williams found her vocation in funeral service while working her college sum- mers at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Colma. After graduation, she worked at Duggan’s Serra Mortuary in Daly City for eight years as a funeral direc- tor and operations manager. After work- ing as a Sales Consultant for Batesville Casket Company , she became Gen- eral Manager at The Portland Memo- rial , a complex of two funeral homes, mausoleum and crematory in Portland, OR. Williams returned to San Francis- co as the San Francisco Branch Direc- tor of the Neptune Society of North- ern California . She also managed the San Francisco Columbarium . In 2005, she returned to Holy Cross Cemetery as Assistant Family Services Manager. She deepened her work in grief ministry as the facilitator of the St. Gabriel’s Grief Group for several years. Williams also currently serves on the Catholic Cemeter- ies and Funeral Services of the West Board as its Vice President.
