The summer heat has broken, football is in full swing, fall festivals abound and the leaves are starting to turn. Not to mention Octoberfest Beer is on the shelves, one of my favorites. And this all means it is also NFDA International Convention time again. I was looking over the agenda this year and the first thing I noticed was the keynote speakers. They are always good, but this year, especially impressed me. Kindra Hall is a story telling expert and will be talking on the psychology of strategic storytelling. No matter what age you are, we all like to listen to a good story. A good storyteller will captivate their audience, no matter if it is one person or one hundred. I would love to have the ability to tell a good story. Sergeant Dakota Meyer is a US Marine Corps Veteran and Medal of Honor Recipient. During an attack in Afghanistan, he entered the “killing zone” saving many lives, both American and Afghan. He will be talking about what it takes to survive, thrive, and tackle your biggest obstacles. We all have obstacles. John O’Leary is an author and motivational speaker. As a child he was burned on 100% of his body and given less than a 1% chance to live. He will be talking about how that experience changed him and can change you as well. I also noticed a couple of Special Agenda items which intrigued me. Funeral Face-Off Trivia Contest. This will test each team’s funeral knowledge. I can’t imagine what the questions might be, but I can imagine there will be some interesting answers and lots of laughs. Axe Throwing Event. This is an under-40 event. I have tried this a few times and it is harder than it looks, but is still a great deal of fun. Should you be an axe It’s NFDA Convention Time Again! throwing novice, there will even be a team of axe coaches to show you how it is done. Unfortunately, I can’t attend this year, but am looking forward to hearing all about it. From their humble beginnings more than 35 years ago with their founder, Terry, selling stuffed animals on street corners, to their exceptional growth today, one thing remains consistent at Terrybear is their commitment to quality and service. “We are incredibly honored to be recognized on this year’s Inc. 5000 list,” said Terrybear CEO, Lavina Lau. “We believe in doing the right things first (for our customers, employees, and suppliers). These choices will ultimately lead us to success. While we never aimed to be on the Inc. 5000 list, it is a great testament to the hard work of our dedicated team, all our customers, and the vendors we work with. They have made our success possible, together. We treasure all of these relationships.” “Our work can be challenging, but also especially fulfilling.
