Kriner Inc. Fu- neral Home & Cremation Service while current owner Dean Kriner celebrated 60 years as a licensed funeral director with the firm he has owned for 55 years. The Dean W. Kriner Funeral Home has operated from numerous locations, includ- ing the former West Main Street location which operated as an undertaking establish- ment as far back as 1910 and the Roat-Kri- ner Funeral Home building, which was the first structure in its county to be built spe- cifically as a funeral home. Dean was born in Williamsport and moved to Fleetwood in Berks County at age four. After high school, he attended Kutz- town State Teachers College, now Kutztown University, for two years before enrolling at the former Eckels College of Mortuary Sci- ence in Philadelphia, where he graduated in 1959, earning the Dean’s Award. During college and while at mortuary school, Dean worked at Mae A. Stump Funeral Home in Fleetwood. He served his internship at Continued on Page A14 Fred F. Groff, Inc. Funeral Home in Lancaster, work- ing there for three years before joining the former Gundel Funeral Home, Inc., also in Lancaster, as a licensed supervisor. Dean moved to Benton and purchased the Hol- combe Funeral Home on September 1, 1965. The D ean W. K riner I nc .
