These new plots allow for green burials for Atlan- ta residents who pass on. Green burial is an econom- ical and environmentally friendly to lay loved ones to rest. It doesn’t involve chemicals or underground vaults that can taint the land or water supply. It’s an all-natural way of pro- viding for the final rest of a loved one, which helps to conserve natural resources, reduce carbon emissions, and preserve and restore natural habitats. Caskets, shrouds and urns used in green buri- al are bio-degradable, and the Green Burial Certifica- tion that goes with it en- sures peace of mind for all involved. For over a decade, the Green Burial Council has set standards for funeral homes, cemeteries, burial grounds and products to assure practices are eco-friendly. These new plots mean more than just additional space in the cemetery, however. “Milton fields have opened two new sections for green burials that now include the op- tion of planting a tree for your loved one,” says owner, Jim Bell. This can be an outstanding means of honoring and memorializing those who have passed on, a tree that will grow from their resting place and could live for cen- turies as a permanent marker of their loved ones. Jim Milton founded Milton Fields over three decades ago as part of an effort to preserve the natural beauty of his land, while allowing locals to have absolute peace of mind in their burial practices—both in laying loved ones to rest and in doing what’s best for the environment.
