TFDA’s Christian Performs Ceremony at
Tomb of Unknown Soldier
NEWS

WA S H I N G TO N , D C—
Chris Christian,
co-own-
er and operator of
Chris-
tian-Sells Funeral Home
in Rogersville TN, was
chosen to represent the
Tennessee Funeral Direc-
tors Association
(TFDA)
by performing the Wreath
Laying Ceremony at the
Tomb of the Unknowns
at
Arlington National
Cemetery
in Arlington,
VA. Arlington National
Cemetery is one the na-
tion’s most sacred shrines
honoring Veterans and
their families who have
sacrificed their lives for
freedom. This is the fi-
nal resting place for more
than
400,000 active duty
service members, veterans
and their families.
Christian currently serves
as the immediate past
president of the TFDA and
was accompanied by his
wife Stacy Christian, and
their nephew Ty Edwards,
both of Rogersville, TN.
Also representing the
State of Tennessee in the
ceremony were the Tomb
Guard sentinels,
Jacob
Davenport
from Murfrees-
boro, and
Samuel Barnett
of Memphis. Sentinels are
considered to be the best
of the elite 3rd U.S. In-
fantry Regiment (The Old
Guard),
headquartered
at Fort Myer, VA. The
Tomb of the Unknowns
(also known as the Tomb
of the Unknown Soldier)
is guarded 24 hours a day,
365 days a year, and in any
weather by Tomb Guard
sentinels. The Guards of
Honor at the Tomb of the
Unknowns are highly mo-
tivated and are proud to
honor all American ser-
vice members who are
“Known But to God.”
When asked what he
thought about being part
of such a great tradition
Chris replied: “A truly
humbling and inspiring
endeavor – the opportu-
nity to be a part of this
unique ceremony is what
I consider to be a perfect
match. Stop and think
about it; many of the peo-
ple we serve in our com-
munities are either veter-
ans or wives, husbands,
parents, siblings, children
or grandchildren of vet-
erans. Who better than
funeral directors to help
teach our children the val-
ue of freedom, to remem-
ber the fallen and hon-
or those who serve? This
is one reason it was espe-
cially important for me
to share this experience
with Ty. At only 8 years
old, he may not fully ap-
preciate the significance
of what our veterans have
sacrificed but I want to
make sure he is presented
with the opportunities to
honor, remember and ex-
plore.”
