Life in a mortuary is never ordinary. In the fif- ties, this Prairie farm boy heeded the call to serve others in grief. When he and his bride moved west to seek their future, they did not feel the wind at their back, nor did they foresee the diverse situations they would encounter. Keeping a sense of humor, they saw the absurd blips on the perimeter of their chosen profes- sion. Toughened by adversity and short- age of the Great De- pression and Second World War, they kept an optimis- tic attitude about times in the quag- mire. Inspired, they wrote this memoir and chose Amazon Publishing to cre- ate their book and give them a path to their readers. These prairie farm kids adjust- ed to a city perso- na and to changes like college, a variety of jobs and living in a funeral home, while they worked their way to a mortuary sci- ence degree. The graduate took on the mantle of a mortician and later became a military officer. Life felt normal, yet they experienced creepy phone calls, whilst a den of rattlesnakes, peeping-toms and the FBI lurked in the fringes. A respite from 24-7 stress, took them to South Dakota to live near their aging mothers. They bought a flower shop in a college town, with occasions of joy. Ongo- ing car dilemmas ended in a blazing acci- dent that required super human power to endure. A white clad military officer heard the crash from nearby and joined them as they waited for help. Then he disappeared. An early reader said that she felt as if it was written to her while reading it. Granted, she knew the authors and an- other reader loved the cover and has read it twice. That is the effect they want. Some said it read like a mini- series and others liked the sub-chap- ters that identify the area that is next. Dale Holt has spent over fifty years in the funeral pro- fession as a licensed mortician. He was a First Lieutenant when discharged from the California National Guard. He and Adina graduated from high school to- gether and have been married sixty-three years. Their book, entitled Our Life Un- dertaking, is available in paperback and e- book format through Amazon books. Adi- na did the Cover Art of their Path. When searching in Amazon books by the title, double-click the cover picture for pages to read, the chapter list has sub-titles that de- tail the book contents. The Holts can be reached at Whispering Waters, by email wh2o@itctel.com.
