Hawkins Funer- al Home, where she was em- ployed as a licensed funeral di- rector until 1989, when her health began to decline. She graduated from the American Academy McAllister Institute of Mortuary Science in New York. CHARLES MCDONALD “CHUCK” WARE SR of Chilli- cothe, OH died June 15, 2018 at the age of 91. A third generation funeral director, he was the owner and opera- tor of Ware Funeral Home for over 60 years, which was founded by his grandfather, Carey J. Ware in 1891. He joined the firm in 1950 as a partner with his father, Thom- as A. Ware until his death in 1964. He graduated from the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science in 1950 and was a member of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. THOMAS MICHAEL “TOM” FLYNN of Hermitage, PA died June 18, 2018 at the age of 79. He established the John Flynn Funeral Home in 1995 and in 2000, he in- troduced Derek, a golden re- triever from Canine Com- panions for Independence to the funeral home, which be- came the first grief therapy dog from C. C. I. in a funeral home. He purchased several cemeteries throughout his funeral service career, in- cluding the Homewood Memorial Gardens in Illi- nois in 1974, the Hillcrest Memorial Park in Her- mitage in 1977, and the Hillcrest-Flynn Pet Funeral Home in 2006. He created the Avenue of 444 Flags in 1979 after the United States Embassy in Tehran, Iran was taken hostage and in 1981 he made the cov- er of Time Magazine for his efforts in the hostage cri- sis. Tom also created the War on Terror Memorial in 2005 and was the 2018 recipient of the Lasting Im- pact Award from the International Cemetery, Crema- tion and Funeral Association. JOHN P. FRANKLIN SR of Chattanooga, TN died June 21, 2018 at the age of 96. He was a licensed funeral director at the John P. Franklin Fu- neral Home, which his father, G.W. established in 1894 as the Franklin Funeral Home. He was a member of the Nation- al Funeral Directors and Morti- cians Association. C. ROBERT “BOB” HASLER of Greentown, IN died June 20, 2018 at the age of 83. A licensed funeral director, he was co-owner and president of the Hasler & Stout Fu- neral Home in Greentown. He previously worked at the Brown & Eckenberg Funeral Home in Anderson, the Shir- ley Brothers, J. C. Wilson and the G. H. Herman Fu- neral Homes in Indianapo- lis, the Raven Funeral Home in Marion and the Par- son Mortuary in Muncie. In 1971, he partnered with Gene Pickett in the Pickett Funeral Home in Green- town, which he acquired in 1981. In 2003 the Hasler’s partnered with the Stouts. A graduate of the Indiana College of Mortuary Science, Bob was a board member for over thirty years at Greenlawn Cemetery in Green- town, and was awarded his sixty year pin of service by the Indiana Funeral Directors Association in 2017. MERCENE L. HANNEMAN of Bowling Green, OH died July 5, 2018 at the age of 93. She was a third generation funer- al director at the Hanneman Funeral Home. She gradu- ated from the Pittsburgh In- stitute of Mortuary Science in 1961 and in 2011 she re- ceived recognition from the Ohio Funeral Directors Asso- ciation for 50 years of faithfully serving the people of the community as a licensed funeral professional. C. EDWARD HINDLE of Spar- ta, NY died July 3, 2018 at the age of 81. He served his apprenticeship with Leo F. Kearnes Funeral Home in Queens, NY before being employed as a licensed fu- neral director at the Sander- son Funeral Home in Seneca Falls. He partnered with Wal- ter E. Baird at Baird Funer- al Home in Danville and later bought his portion of the business, which he operat- ed as Hindle Funeral Home. His son, Carl and wife Lisa assumed operation of the business after he retired in 1955. He graduated from the Simmons School of Em- balming and Mortuary Science in 1957. JASON NICHOLAS KINN of McComb, OH died June 26, 2018 at the age of 44. A li- censed funeral director, he was the former co-owner of the Hermann-Kinn Funer- al Homes in Fremont and Gibsonburg. He previous- ly served as manager of the Keller-Ochs-Koch Funeral Home in Fremont and had worked at the Spring Grove Funeral Home in Cincinnati. A 1998 graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he later taught at the college and was a mem- ber of the National Funeral Directors Association and the Ohio Funeral Directors Association. LARRY WARREN PAYNE of Woodway, TX died June 17, 2018 at the age of 64. He served as chairman of the board at his family’s firm, Aderhold Funeral Home, Inc in West, which he joined in 1991 as a licensed funeral director. He was a member of the Texas Funeral Directors As- sociation, the North Texas Fu- neral Directors Association, and was elected to the Texas Funeral Directors Associa- tion Services, Inc board of directors as well as the North Texas Association board of directors. RACHEL ANN SARVER MIN- NICH of West Milton, OH died June 9, 2018 at the age of 92. She worked alongside her husband, Carl Sarver in the operating of the Hale- Sarver Funeral Home in West Milton. Following her husband’s death, she became a licensed funeral director and continued his legacy by serving the families in Montgomery, Darke and Miami County. DONALD G. WARD of Ham- burg, NY died June 13, 2018 at the age of 89. He was a li- censed landscape architect who specialized in cemetery design. In 1955, he joined Earl Grever, a landscape ar- chitect who did designs for the Catholic Diocese of Buf- falo. In 1959, they partnered to form Grever and Ward in Orchard Park, which is the only firm nationally that plans and designs cemeteries throughout the United States and Canada. He retired in 2016. Ward gradu- ated with a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the State University of New York College of Envi- ronmental Science and Forestry in 1952 and was a mem- ber of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
