Its first display of material will be available at the upcoming NFDMA Con- vention in Mobile, AL, August 3-8, 2019. The 100BWFS Traveling Funeral Home Museum, which is an exhibit on a smaller level, will continue to be managed by the 100BWFS staff, Elleanor Starks, histori- an and certified archivist. It will continue to be available for state and national con- ventions by request on a smaller scale with great relevant history and will honor Liv- ing Legends of Funeral Service, Great Fam- ily Legacies, Hall of Fame Funeral Homes and current Honorees depending on the themes of the conven- tion and the exhibit. “We are always looking for Trailblaz- ers and visionaries whose founding and works that re- flect history and progress,” stated president Inez Ad- kins, of the 100BWFS. The Museum staff started se- curing history artifacts about 20 years ago when many of the mem- bers became state historians and held of- fice as past district governors and state presidents in the NFDMA. The history dates back to the freedom of slaves and the opening of historic Belgrave’s Funer- al Home of Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies, when its female founder sought to be free and take care of her children. Firms like Carl Miller Funeral Home of Camden, NJ and it’s current family firm dating back 5 or 6 generations are represented. Funeral histo- ry is very exciting. It can get you to a place where you want to know more and more. It takes you to places that you never thought you would ever venture. A special thanks to the NFDMA for think- ing outside the box. The 100BWFS wish to thank their funeral home owners and funeral suppliers who have supported the AAFSHM research, consulting work, and convention exhibit so they could share the African Amer- ican Funeral Service History. Tyra Butler and the Matthews Casket Room at NFDMA and the work she started; Nomis Publica- tions, Funeral Home Gifts, Batesville Cas- ket Company, Celebration Covers, Randy Garner, Phil Mathis and others who have supported them for the last 20 years. The 100BWFS are looking forward to the com- mitment of more African American funeral home owners, great family legacies, licensed funeral directors and morticians, state presi- dents, district governors, associations and his- tory buffs serving as historians for displaying their funeral history in the Museum.
