B logs 2018 Charity Golf Classic a Swinging Success! The History of Cremation Exhibit to open Fall 2018 This exhibit blends the history, modern science and me- morialization possibilities for a hugely popular—let largely misunderstood—industry. Created in partnership with Cremation Association of North America (CANA), the exhibit will feature artifacts and inter- active components to showcase cremation through the ages and how we memorialize our dearly departed. Construction is well underway and artifacts and informa- tion on the history of cremation are being placed through- out the exhibit. Though the History of Cremation Exhibit won’t open un- til fall 2018, here is a first look at what to expect. While the exhibit primarily focuses on cremation in the United States, the first thing visitors see at the front of the exhibit is a kiosk where they can learn about the ancient his- tory of cremation. Knowing the ancient history of cremation will give visitors a “full circle” view of cremation’s evolution. And there’s no better way to begin that history than at the LeMoyne Crematory , Amer- ica’s first crematory. As visitors approach the opening to the exhibit, they will stand before an exact replica of the façade of the LeMoyne Crematory. It will be as if they have been transported from Houston to Washington, PA. Upon entering the exhibit, visitors will enter a room mod- eled after LeMoyne Crematory’s cremation chamber, where the first cremation in America took place. From there, visitors will continue to walk through the his- tory of cremation—how the cremation process and me- morialization evolved over time in the United States, and CANA’s central role to America’s cremation story. From the historical portion of the exhibit, the content will shift from past to present. Visitors will stand before a mod- ern cremation chamber. In the opening where the body is placed within the chamber, a video screen will detail the cre- mation process from start to finish. In the modern cremation portion of the exhibit, visitors will learn the science be- hind cremation—how it is methodical and well controlled. President of the NMFH Genevieve G. Keeney stated, “It will open up peoples’ minds to understand the pro- cess of cremation and perhaps give them more of an appreciation for cremation. The exhibi- tion will allow people to go behind the scenes— seeing cremation con- tainers, the process, how we recycle, how we me-
