He was co-owner of the Carney Funeral Home and Cemetery. Carney was coro- ner of Mississippi County for three terms and continued as a deputy coroner since his re- tirement. JEROME BUSLER GHOLSON of McLeansboro, IL died April 27, 2021 at the age of 85. A sec- ond-generation funeral director, he owned and operated the Ghol- son Funeral Home in McLeans- boro and Dahlgren for over 55 years. He previously served as the Hamilton County coroner and was an EMT for Gholson Ambu- lance Service for many years. ROBERT “BOB” KNIGHT of North Huntingdon, PA, formerly of White Oak, PA died April 11, 2021 at the age of 80. A retired funeral director, he worked for many local funeral homes and was an area representa- tive for Bass-Mollett and Hydrol Chemical Co. ELIZABETHA. “LIZ”MEINERT of Sarasota, FL, formerly of Or- egon, OH died April 13, 2021 at the age of 81. She was one of the first female funeral directors in Northwest Ohio. Meinert owned and operated Eggleston Mein- ert Funeral Home alongside her husband, Donn Meinert for many years. HERBERT“HERB”H.MOORE of Vinton, OH died April 26, 2021 at the age of 85. A funer- al director and embalmer since 1970, he worked at the McCoy- Moore Funeral Homes in Vin- ton and Gallipolis until the time of his passing. A 1969 graduate of the Cincinnati School of Mor- tuary Science, he was a fifty-year member of the Ohio Funeral Di- rectors Association. LAWRENCE C. PANOZZO of Flossmoor, IL died April 22, 2021 at the age of 91. A li- censed funeral director for 67 years, he owned and operat- ed the Panozzo Bros. Funeral Home in Chicago Heights, IL and served as a longtime secre- tary for the Funeral Directors Services Association of Greater Chicagoland. DORIS THOMPSON SLACK of Howard County, MD died April 29, 2021 at the age of 93. In 1966, she and her husband, John R. Slack purchased the Higin- bothom Funeral Home. Upon John’s is 1983, Doris became pres- ident of the Slack Funeral Home, P.A. in Ellicott City, a position which she held until her death. She was a member of the Mary- land Funeral Directors Association. ROBERT JOSEPHTRAUNERO of Tiffin, OH died April 13, 2021 at the age of 95. Bob re- tired in 1988 from Whirlpool Corp after 25 years of ser- vice. He assisted his son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Andrea Traunero in opera- tions at the Traunero Funeral Home. CLEELAND R. WILLIS of Gallipolis, OH died April 21, 2021 at the age of 84. A li- censed funeral director and em- balmer, he owned and operated Willis Funeral Home, which he founded in 1974. A sec- ond-generation funeral direc- tor since 1973, Mahan became president of the firm after the death of her father in 1974 and mother, Bethene, in 1985. Her two sons, Jeffrey and Matthew Mahan are actively involved in the “day to day” operation of the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home. Mahan is a past president of the Washington State Funeral Directors Asso- ciation, the first woman to hold this chair, and past presi- dent of the Blue Mountain Funeral Directors District #6. VIRGINIA L. “GINNY” HERRING MAHAN of Wal- la Walla, WA died April 16, 2021 at the age of 87. In the late 1940’s, her father, the late Norman S. Herring, later became president of the firm as well as the Bury and Roberts Funeral Home. In the mid-1990s, Roberts built the Dengler, Roberts, Perna Fu- neral Home in Amherst. REV EDDIE RAY JOHNSON of Galveston, TX died April 28, 2021 at the age of 56. A licensed funeral di- rector and embalmer since 1990, he worked at Mer- & Son Funeral Services in War- ren, which was founded by his grandfather in 1897. Tradition was carried on by his son, fourth generation Jim McFarland. A 1946 graduate of the Cincinna- ti College of Mortuary Science, he was a member of the Select- ed Independent Funeral Homes, National Funeral Directors Asso- ciation and the Ohio Funeral Di- rectors Association. DAVID F. MCFARLAND of Sebring, OH, formerly of Warren, OH died April 22, 2021 at the age of 98. He was the owner and operator of the former McFarland ed in 1986. Carter was also the managing director at the John Quint Treboni Funeral Home. A graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science, he was past president of the Ohio Funeral Directors Association, Ohio Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors and the Cen- tral Ohio Funeral Directors Asso- ciation, District 16. ROBERT CLAYTON CARTER of Columbus, OH died April 20, 2021 at the age of 57. A funeral direc- tor for thirty-five years, he owned and operated the Robert C. Carter Funeral Services, which he found- before becoming sole owner in 1992. He was later joined in the daily operations by his son, John Mark Vinson. A graduate of the Kentucky School of Mor- tuary Science, Vinson was elect- ed as Trigg County Coroner in 1965 and retired in 2006 as one of Kentucky’s longest serv- ing coroners. His son was then elected coroner and continues to serve in that capacity. JOHN R. VINSON III of Cadiz, KY died April 13, 2021 at the age of 78. A licensed funeral director, he worked for Goodwin Funeral Home for thirty years worked alongside his grandpar- ents, Sam and Lenna Harper, parents, John and Ruth Swick- ard, and brother, Stephen Swickard, in the family busi- ness, Harper-Swickard Funer- al Home for more than five de- cades. Swickard served one term as Coles County coroner and played taps for deceased vet- erans’ funerals until his retire- ment.
