I’ll start by sharing something that you may not know. I have a brain in- jury. A few years ago, a truck hit my car. Since then, words are more difficult for me to find. Writing this column means the world to me, which is why I am be- yond grateful to the Funeral Home & Cemetery News for finding a way to give me more time to write it. Starting this month, Let’s Chat will be moving from every month to every quarter. In honor of Father’s Day I want to re- member my Dad, JohnWilliamMooney, Jr, our family’s Superman and the author of “Merry Christmas From Heaven.” You might think with my Dad gone that I am a daughter without a father. That will never be true. I am a daughter of Superman. The man who will forever be in love with his wife, our mom, Jean Mooney. The Dad who taught us that no matter what we can count on him. He will love us through every challenge and help us see that our mistakes can only help us grow when we own them. Can you guess my Dad’s first superpower? You’re right: unconditional love is my Dad’s first superpower. When medicine could not save him he did not run from the fight. He had been there before. Heart attacks, cancer, fluid in his lungs, he beat them all. You might say that our Superman’s will to live went beyond measure, and you would be head- ing in the right direction. For now let’s just say that strength is another one of my Dad’s superpowers and that it is more than physical. For me, myDad’s super human strength comes from faith. [You may be saying, “Shouldn’t that read ‘came from faith?’” I get it and I ask you to please bear with me, as I explain why my Dad’s strength can never be past tense.] First, I am not talking about faith that comes from be- lieving. My dad’s faith in himself, his family, and above all in God goes beyond believing. When he was alive his strength came from know- ing that the Creator of All never forsakes us. God carries us during our worst times and brings us home to make us whole when we die. You might say my Dad’s super human strength came from know- ing life does not end at death. Therefore, how can he have less strength now that he is living with God? You might also be asking if faith is a super power. For me, the answer is yes, because my Dad’s great- est power lies in how he continues to help us realize that love does not end with our last heartbeat. This is why I know he will forever be my Dad. Though I may not be able to see him I have faith that I will always be able to lean on him. My Dad is a part of our lives. The sun he brings out of the clouds for my mom, his visits during my meditation, helping my sister Jennifer’s beautiful spirit shine in our darkest moments, the poems he brings to my sister Eliza- beth’s dreams, and the gift of voice he gives to my sister Jax, are examples of how I know that God is helping my Dad love us. This Father’s Day, I am beyond grateful that our dad knew in life and knows in eternal life that he is our Superman. I pray you will tell your Dad, wher- ever he may be, all the reasons you love him this Father’s Day. Thank you for letting me share some of the many reasons I have the most perfect forever Dad for me. I love you, Superman! In 2000 Kristan Dean began working with her family to bring Merry Christmas From Heaven ® to all who need the gifts’ message of Comfort, Love, and Faith. Today she is the Vice President of Marketing and one of the primary members of her family’s Bereavement Ministry.  Thanks, in great part, to the thousands of funer- al directors and retailers nationwide who make Merry Christmas From Heaven ® a part of their communities, countless numbers of families reach out to their fam- ily every year. Their bereavement ministry helps families realize that those in Heaven live forever in our hearts. Their love is with us always.    Prior to Mooney TunCo, Inc. Kristan worked with com- panies nationwide helping them build revenues by creat- ing greater sales opportunities through the use of sales in- telligence and marketing alignment. FUNERAL HOME & CEMETERY NEWS www.nomispublications.com Monthly Columns online at BROOKFIELD,WI— The Funeral Service Foundation has issued a call for grant proposals from funeral service-re- lated businesses and charitable institutions throughout the United States and Canada who are providing elevated/ emergency assistance or grief support to communities im- pacted by COVID-19. Grants will be awarded through the Foundation’s COVID-19 Crisis Response Fund. Funding Priorities Designed to be flexible, the fund provides grants for im- mediate needs within funeral service including emergen- cy response to significant loss of life; grants to organi- zations providing services and resources to families with unresolved and complicated grief due to loss during this crisis; and grants for other important needs as funeral ser- vice continues to serve families during this rapidly evolv- ing crisis. The costs associated with burials, memorializa- tion, cremations, etc. are not eligible for funding. “The grants are intended to ensure funeral service profes- sionals have access to the supplies, equipment, personnel and resources necessary to safely and compassionately care for the deceased and their grieving families,” says Foundation chair Anthony Guerra. “We’ve cast a wide net, understanding that the urgent needs will vary from community to community.” How to Apply Funeral service-related businesses and charitable organiza- tions may apply online at www.funeralservicefoundation.org/ covid19fund/ . Applicants are required to provide a brief proj- ect narrative, a detailed budget, and will be asked to discuss the capacity to deliver on the request and define its success.
