WOODLAND PARK,CO— Voices of Grief made its debut appearance at the 2018 NFDA Inter- national Convention & Expo. At the Conven- tion, the session titled “Voices of Grief – A film- based approach to com- munity outreach” was presented in partnership with The Springs Fu- neral Services in Colo- rado Springs and Koch Funeral Home in State College, PA. The award-winning film, Voices of Grief, Honoring the Sacred Journey , illustrates how to navigate the jour- ney of grief in a death and grief avoidant culture. It offers a teaching for fu- neral home staff and the community at large about the importance of com- passion for this often-sup- pressed journey. Five per- sonal stories of loss and grief are supplemented with expert voices such as renowned funeral direc- tors and authors Thom- as Lynch , Alan Wolfelt , Rabbi Harold Kushner and David Kessler , who lend their blessing to the importance of the natural process of honoring a life well lived with story and ritual. This powerful film provides a low cost, easy to implement, outreach tool to engage with key community partners. Voices of Grief also made its debut appear- ance at the Expo with a booth offering attendees complementary stream- ing access to the film, as well as the opportunity to receive some “uncon- ditional love” from ther- apy dogs, Sumo and Fred , provided by Intermoun- tain Therapy Animals. The loving dogs were rep- resentative of the com- panioning needed to best serve those who are griev- ing. Additional informa- tion about Voices of Grief can be found at www.voicesofgrief.org .
